4x4 Off Road Driving and other Training Courses

Nationwide 4x4 is a leading training organisation for the land-based sector. We specialise in 4x4 off road driving courses, but also offer expert training courses in range of heavy-duty vehicles and machinery as used by the different land-based industries.   Founded in 1995 by Director and Chief Instructor, Selwyn Kendrick, Nationwide 4x4 is a LANTRA Awards-approved training provider.

Nationwide 4x4 is a major organiser of off road motor sporting activities within the UK.   We are actively involved in numerous 4x4 events including the National Off Road Show, the Farmers Weekly 4x4 Exhibition and the What Van Live event, as well as various. Hill Rallies and other shows.  In addition, the company currently holds the prestigious Motor Sports Association contract to organise and run the British Off-Road Championships.

4x4, Off road, driving training courses

The need for off-road driving training has only been recognised as a real necessity in recent years.  Though these vehicles have been in use by a growing number of public, military, and private users,  the dangers of treating this highly-specialised mode of transport as ordinary road transport have been amply demonstrated by the great number of accidents and even deaths.

However, Nationwide 4x4 not only offers formal training, but also less formal courses for the casual driver such as the light-hearted Baskerville Challenge.   The following are our standard courses:

  • 4x4 Professional Off Road Driving Course
  • 4x4 Instructional Techniques Course
  • 4x4 Off road Instructor Course
  • One Day 4x4 Off-road Health & Safety Course
  • The Baskerville Challenge

Corporate Driver Training

These days, professional training is a necessity within the land-based sector.   New health and safety regulations mean that employers must ensure that employees using or supervising equipment or machinery have received proper instruction to an appropriate standard and, moreover, that they have a valid certificate or documentation to support this.

As well as complying with health and safety requirements, many organisations also recognise the benefits of training, including lower vehicle maintenance costs, longer vehicle life, lower insurance rates and ‘Investment in People’.   In recent years,  the need for driver training has been actively sought by, amongst others:

  • The Blue Light Brigades (Police, Fire Brigade, Ambulance)
  • The Utilities (Electricity Boards, National Grid, Water boards, Telephone Companies)
  • The Armed Services
  • The Forestry Commission
  • The Coast Guard
  • Mountain Rescue Services

We have control and exclusive use of 3 large 4x4 off road driving sites and courses.  Each site is recognised and registered by LANTRA Awards.

1. Severn Sisters site at Glynneath, Mid Glamorgan.

Our Severn Sisters site covers over 2500 acres and incorporates all types of terrain, including water hazards and steep slopes.   It is also well equipped with all the required aspects of, for example, a Winching Programme, with the benefits of wrecked & burned out vehicles, timber and forestry.

2. Sennybridge Training Ground, Powys.

Our Sennybridge site is in the heart of the Brecon Beacons and is located within one of the Military's biggest and most challenging training areas.  It encompasses some 10 miles of off road tracks including a multitude of different terrain types and obstacles.

3. Baskerville Hall, at Clyro Court, Clyro, Hereford.

Our off road supertrack is situated in the grounds of Baskerville Hall, a historic country mansion with a colourful past! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a frequent house visitor at the hall, and was so inspired by it that he asked permission to use it as the basis of a novel. Permission was given on the condition that the location of the Hall was never disclosed, therefore the famous novel "The Hounds of the Baskervilles" was based around Grimpen Mire.
